When it comes to powering athletic performance, recovery is everything. At Texas Christian University (TCU), that philosophy now has a stunning new home inside the Simpson Family Restoration & Wellness Center, a $50 million facility built to give Horned Frogs athletes a cutting-edge competitive edge.

At the heart of the center, which was designed by Populous — the global architectural firm behind iconic venues such as the London 2012 Olympic Stadium and Yankee Stadium, among so many others — is a custom KLAFS sauna paired with a TechnoAlpin Snow Room designed and installed by DFL. Together, they deliver a next-level hot/cold contrast therapy solution that goes far beyond the traditional ice bath.

Why Sauna + Snow?

Cold plunges have long been a recovery staple, but athletes are finding that the gentle, dry chill of snow is a game-changer. Unlike the shock of ice water, snow therapy offers a more comfortable yet highly effective cooling phase after deep heat.

The result? Faster muscle recovery, better circulation, and an overall experience that athletes actually look forward to. This innovative approach not only supports recovery but also enhances performance, wellness, and even recruitment appeal for TCU Athletics.

A Next-Level Installation

  • KLAFS Sauna – engineered for high-heat performance and group recovery.

  • TechnoAlpin Snow Room – filled with real, dry snow for immediate cool-down after heat.

  • Custom Design by DFL – integrating ancient hydrothermal traditions with modern performance needs.

Together, they form a seamless recovery circuit that’s both high-tech and athlete-approved.
