WHAT WE DO
Design for Leisure (DFL) is a team of hydrothermal spa specialists working in partnership with owners, operators, architects and designers to bring European-inspired hydrotherapy concepts to life. Our expertise in building best-in-class wet areas ranges from small but luxurious residential thermal suites to the acclaimed Canyon Ranch hydrothermal circuit at the Venetian Resort (Las Vegas, NV), considered the largest day spa in the U.S.
PROJECT PLANNING & DESIGN
Creating a luxury spa environment is a complex process. Without the technical knowledge of hydrothermal specialist during the planning and design stage, you risk overlooking key requirements that will ultimately end up costing both time and money.
Enter Design for Leisure.
SUPPLY & BUILD
Construction supervision is crucial to ensuring the wet area in your spa is built to code and that complex equipment is installed correctly. We not only know the best practices for spa construction, we know how to avoid common mistakes—and have exclusive partnerships with Europe’s leading spa equipment manufacturers.
SERVICE & TRAINING
Design for Leisure’s spa areas are built to the highest standards, requiring minimum service beyond day-to-day maintenance. However, in the event that older facilities require a facelift or existing equipment requires servicing, DFL is committed to being your trusted hydrothermal spa specialist for life.

Don Genders, CEO, founded Design for Leisure in London in 1991. The company’s first large-scale project was Holmes Place Health Club, Kensington, London in 1993, followed by Virgin Active Health Clubs and The London Mandarin Oriental. After more than a decade of creating high-end, turnkey wet spa areas for hotels throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, DFL was tapped by Canyon Ranch, the luxury spa and wellness leader in the U.S. to build its Miami spa in 2003, closely followed by its project at The Venetian and Palazzo in Las Vegas. At 134,000 square feet, Canyon Ranch at the Venetian Resort remains one of the largest spa/hydrothermal builds in the world. The success with these projects led to the opening of DFL’s USA headquarters, now located in Austin, TX, and managed by COO Matthew Williamson. Today, Design for Leisure is the leading hydrothermal design and building specialist in the U.S. and around the globe—see some of our projects here.
